For 2020, Buffalo Public Schools recorded an 11.6% growth in its graduation rate to 76.3%, the highest growth of all Big 5 City School Districts! I saw firsthand the progress that was being made when I visited six of our high schools, just prior to the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Four of them were new innovative high schools, which graduated their first classes in 2020. At that time, principals showed me data indicating remarkable numbers of students on track to graduate with the necessary course credits earned and Regents Exams passed.
We saw remarkable gains in the graduate rate for ELL students (increase of 24.3%) and students with disabilities (increase of 12.3%), both exceeding state averages.
This is clear evidence that our Buffalo Public Schools, educators, and, most of all, our students continue to RISE!
